How will #raise20run20 campaign funds be used?

We will transfer 100% of funds raised to our partner organizations who help individuals and families build sustainable pathways out of extreme poverty.

·      Non-profit organizations who run entrepreneurial training programs

·      Small businesses who employ the ultra poor with dignified jobs

3rd Creek Foundation does not keep a single cent of funds donated to support its own operations.

Our highest priority for the funds is supporting the ultra poor and partner program participants with emergency relief through small cash transfers.

We have heard from our partners that the situation in some program locations is quite dire. For example, a graduate from Street Business School had to suddenly close her clothing shop due to government shut down in Kampala, Uganda. While she had some resources on hand, her store was raided during the shut down, and thieves ran off with her entire inventory. As the shut down continues in many of the locations where we work, we expect meager savings to diminish, and crime to increase.

Another partner, Upaya Social Ventures, invests in enterprises in India with high job growth potential for the ultra poor. Tamul Plates, a star in their portfolio, employs 4,000 people to collect and supply raw materials every spring. This year, they are restricted from movement, and unable to earn any money.

In most of the places where 3rd Creek Foundation works, there are no unemployment checks or emergency business loans. Individuals who relied on daily wages to put food on the table have a very thin (if any) safety net. Our annual grant funding typically supports partners to run transformative programs for this demographic. Given Covid-19, we are also extending funds from this campaign to help this demographic weather the storm. In some cases, that literally means survive.

Some funds raised may also support our partners with critical needs funds.

We’ve heard from some of our non-profit partners that they’ve recently lost funding commitments from major institutions in the wake of the pandemic. In the US, non-profits and enterprise can apply for PPP loans, but our local partners do not have access to an equivalent resource. We may also use some of the funds raised to help our outstanding partners, both non-profits and social enterprise, keep their lights on during this difficult period, so that they can carry on their transformational work well into the future.
